Memere’s Pork Pie

Serves: 5 Pies in total
This is a Recipe passed down from Denise’s Memere and we like to have it on New Years Day! Also makes a great meal anytime- just add a salad!!

Ingredients

4-5 lbs. Ground Pork
2 lbs. Ground Beef (or ground Moose)
1 lg. Onion, chopped
6 ounces Water
6 slices white bread, cut into small pieces
4 – 6 med. White potatoes, cut into quarters
(½ stick of butter and ½ to ¾ cup milk)
Salt & Pepper to taste
Pie Crust for 5 Pies, top & bottom crusts

Directions

1. In large Pan on med. Heat, brown ground pork & beef, stirring often until completely browned.
2. Add chopped onions & water and Mix well. Turn Heat to Low and Cook for at least 2 hours, stirring every 15- 20 minutes so it will not stick to the bottom of pan.
3. While this is cooking, Boil potatoes, when cooked drain & mash potatoes with butter, milk, salt & pepper.
4. After Meat has cooked for 2 hours, add the Mashed Potatoes and bread pieces, Salt and Pepper to taste.
5. Mix well and cook an addition 15 – 20 minutes, stir often.
6. Put Meat mixture in unbaked pie crust & cover with top crust. Coat top crust with a little milk. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 min. Cool, cover with foil & Freeze.
7. When ready to bake, preheat oven to 350 degrees and bake pie for approx. 50-60 minutes until heated through & pie is nicely browned.

We serve with Cheddar cheese, pickles and pepper & onion relish 😊 Bon Appetite!!
